Death of a Spouse or Dependent
Our thoughts are with you during this incredibly difficult time. Your ECU Health benefits offer a wide range of support to help you cope emotionally and financially when you lose a spouse or a dependent.
You have 30 days from the date of death to drop your spouse or dependent and/or make changes to your ECU Health benefits.
Within 30 days of death
- Review your ECU Health benefits and drop or update your benefits coverage.
- To make a change to your benefits following a Qualified Life Event, visit the Employee Self Service page and select the Benefits Enrollment tile (with the bswift logo), log in, then click on “Birth, Marriage or other Life Event” under Common Actions.
At any time
- Review the time off options ECU Health offers and work with your manager to schedule any time off you need.
- While on the enrollment platform (bswift), update your beneficiaries, if needed.
- If enrolled in ARAG legal insurance, consider creating or updating your will.
- Explore the financial planning resources available through Fidelity.
