Getting Divorced

Life changes like divorce can be overwhelming. As you navigate this transition, it’s important to consider your ECU Health benefits.

You have 30 days from your divorce date to drop your spouse and/or make changes to your ECU Health benefits.

Within 30 days of divorce

  • Review your ECU Health benefits and drop or update your benefits coverage.
    • Drop your former spouse from your ECU Health benefits.
    • Review your life insurance coverage and be sure to drop any spouse life and AD&D insurance.
  • To make a change to your benefits following a Qualified Life Event, visit the Employee Self Service page and select the Benefits Enrollment tile (with the bswift logo), log in, then click on “Birth, Marriage or other Life Event” under Common Actions.

At any time

  • While on the enrollment platform (bswift), update your beneficiaries for your life insurance to make sure your benefits are paid the way you want.
  • If enrolled in ARAG legal insurance, consider creating or updating your will to drop your former spouse, if desired.
  • Seek support for everyday challenges or serious issues through ECU HealthNow teletherapy service.
  • Explore financial planning with the resources available through Fidelity.
