Pay Increases

ECU Health aims to remain competitive with the external marketplace and to reward team members for performance and growth throughout the year.

Two major programs that award base pay increases are key drivers of this strategy:

Annual Market Adjustments

The Compensation team annually completes a comprehensive market review of all system jobs. Each spring, we complete several industry surveys to acquire updated market data and analyze how we pay for each individual role compared to similar roles at similar health systems. Pay-range updates and market adjustments are structured to ensure we keep pace with external market movement.

Market adjustments are split into separate groups. Staff Nurse and related roles are typically reviewed in the fall, and all other system roles are typically reviewed in late winter or spring. Please note, the market adjustment is not an annual guarantee.

Annual Merit Process

The primary focus of the Annual Merit Process is to ensure the system is rewarding team members for their performance, efforts and achievements. The Merit Process takes place after the close of the fiscal year, and eligible team members will receive a variable pay increase from their leader. This pay-rate adjustment is based on a holistic view of the team member, including performance, skills, team value, professional growth and development, living out the organizational values and other performance factors.
