Birth or Adoption
Congratulations on your new family member! ECU Health has benefits and resources to support you at this exciting time. It’s also important to review your ECU Health benefits and add your new child to any needed coverage.
You have 30 days after the child’s birth or placement to add your child to your coverage and/or make changes to your ECU Health benefits.
Before your new child arrives
- Work with your manager to create a plan that works for you.
- Schedule any leave of absence. Visit PolicyStat to learn more about the leaves of absence ECU Health has to offer.
Within 30 days of child arriving
- Review your ECU Health benefits and add or update your benefits coverage.
- In addition to considering adding your new addition to your ECU Health medical, dental and vision benefits, you may increase your flexible spending account.
- Consider adding child life and AD&D insurance.
- To make a change to your benefits following a Qualified Life Event, visit the Employee Self Service page and select the Benefits Enrollment tile (with the bswift logo), log in, then click on “Birth, Marriage or other Life Event” under Common Actions.
At any time
- While on the enrollment platform (bswift), update your beneficiaries for your life insurance to make sure your benefits are paid the way you want.
- If enrolled in an ECU Health medical plan, you can search for network pediatricians at askallegiance.com/ecuhealth.
- If enrolled in ARAG legal insurance, consider updating your will to plan for who will take care of your family if something happens.
- Seek support for everyday challenges or serious issues through ECU HealthNow teletherapy service at members.mdlive.com/ecuhealth/landing_home.
Adopting?
ECU Health provides financial assistance for adoption. You can be reimbursed up to $2,500 per child (max $5,000 per year) in eligible expenses per child. For eligibility information, visit the ECU Health Service Center.
