Premium increases for medical and dental
  • As we’re all aware, expenses continue to increase each year when it comes to providing medical and dental coverage to help keep our population healthy. While ECU Health is absorbing a large portion of the cost increases, and you will benefit from group rates, team members will be asked to contribute more to medical and dental premiums in 2027.
  • Medical Savings Plan participants are now eligible for free Telemedicine and Behavioral Health visits through ECU HealthNow. Now, all team members enrolled in any ECU Health medical plan receive ECU HealthNow services at no cost.
  • Medical and dental premiums will increase by 4%.

ECU Health Basic, Choice and Resident Plans

The Tier 1 deductibles in the Basic, Choice and Resident Plans will decrease to reduce your out-of-pocket costs when you choose an ECU Health Alliance provider. The Tier 2 deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums will increase. The Basic and Choice Plans will also offer more distinct levels of coverage in 2027. Both plans will feature lower Tier 1 deductibles when you use an ECU Health Alliance provider, helping reduce out-of-pocket costs. The Choice Plan will provide enhanced Tier 1 coverage through a lower deductible and higher plan-paid coinsurance, while the Basic Plan continues to offer comprehensive coverage at a lower premium. Tier 2 deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums will increase, and some copays and coinsurance amounts will change. Refer to your 2027 Benefits Guide for details.

Coverage of GLP-1 medication

ECU Health is proud to continue offering coverage for eligible GLP-1 medications at a time when many organizations are scaling back or discontinuing this benefit. To help keep the benefit sustainable, new program requirements are being developed for 2027. Additional information will be shared as soon as the requirements are finalized.

New guidelines include:

  • One year of service with ECU Health for new prescriptions in 2027.
  • Monthly wellness coaching.
  • GLP-1s for weight loss will only be eligible to be filled through the ECU Health Employee Pharmacy. A courier service is available to all hospital locations.
Short-term Disability coverage
Short-term Disability helps protect your income if you’re unable to work due to a non-work-related illness or injury. Beginning in 2027, all full-time benefit-eligible team members, residents and providers will receive 60% income replacement, up to the maximum weekly amount, regardless of years of service. You can also choose to purchase an additional 20% buy-up option.
Provider coverage updates
Beginning in 2027, providers will receive employer-paid Short-term Disability coverage and a single Provider Time Away (PTA) bank. The new PTA bank combines vacation, sick, holiday and Continuing Medical Education (CME) time into one benefit, making time-away management simpler and more consistent across ECU Health.
